“The Impact of Light is felt not when it shines on people’s faces, but when it shines on their path”- Ebube Agu
Breakdown: Remember that night that person was walking towards you and had their torch lights pointed upwards towards your face and not the ground. I’m sure that was mighty annoying. And for those of us that drive; remember that annoying driver who didn’t know when to dim his/her headlights, so the light was all up in your eyes and you had to navigate by “Faith” (more like experience). Now if you can relate to that, I believe you will agree with me that it is more probable for those lights to be a disturbance to you if your own lights aren’t as bright. The opposite Lights have more negative impact on your sight if your lights are not strong enough to combat theirs and properly illuminate your path.
Now all these are literal, so what does it imply figuratively?
For the purpose of this write-up, I’ll define LIGHT as
1- “One’s knowledge of God and a relationship with Him”
2- “Visible success in one’s endevour and business (whatever it may be)”
Therefore, with reference to that, If you have bright (oppresive, intimidating and blinding) lights you will not have much positive impact on others. As a believer (in God’s Word and Son) people will not be influenced by your intimidating and crude methods of reaching out, don’t get all up in their faces, get all up in their lives. You have MAXIMUM IMPACT when your light (in this case attitude, behaviors, habits, results, and compassion) is seen by others. They can see your light, but in this case it’s a LIGHT UNTO THEIR PATHS showing them how to live and what to do.
People’s hearts tend to be hardened when you shine the light on their face instead of their paths. Yes they want to see, no one genuinely wants to dwell in darkness. So instead of blinding them with the light, why not use your light and show them the way.
Fact: The sun is the most important source of natural light… “Despite 60 percent less traffic on the roads, more than 40 percent of all fatal car accidents occur at night. Sunlight provides the strongest light source. When it goes down at night, there are a variety of man-made lights that help drivers safely navigate the roads.”- https://seriousaccidents.com/legal-advice/top-causes-of-car-accidents/nighttime-driving/
